Walking into my local library the other day, I grabbed three books to check out, and as I handed them to the librarian to scan, the card reader beeped twice - indicating I had outstanding fines. Why is it always those two annoying beeps that signal another late fee for my favorite novel? It's infuriating that even with digital payments, this archaic system still persists.
