I stood behind the barista, already frazzled from Monday morning traffic. I ordered, cashed out, and handed over my loyalty card for a free drink. The barcode wouldn't scan. We both stared at the screen. The line behind me got restless. She muttered, 'Be right there', while trying to log me in manually. My coffee's delayed now, all for the price of a barcode not cooperating.
