Coffee shop line jogs along, then hits a snag. Barista scans ticket, only to pause, confused. Did you get this card recently? I ask, already knowing I did. She nods slowly, fiddling with the scanner. Meanwhile, an impatient guy in back starts drumming with his bag, a nervous tic I've learned to recognize, and now my coffee's taking even longer.
